From Village to Visionary: How the MOE Scholarship Transformed My Journey to ISHOU University
The MOE (Ministry of Education) scholarship has been a cornerstone of my academic journey, building upon the solid foundation I received at Coimbatore District Government Model School, a residential school that offers free coaching for competitive exams and career guidance. It was through the school’s dedicated career guidance team that I learned about the MOE scholarship. With their support, I prepared for and wrote the required exams, and the Tamil Nadu government generously provided my first tickets to Taiwan. This journey ultimately led me to pursue advanced studies in Artificial Intelligence at ISHOU University.
The scholarship’s impact has extended beyond academics and into my broader achievements. For instance, attended a felicitation event organized by the Taiwan Embassy in Delhi, where the ambassador personally presented us with certificates of recognition. This prestigious ceremony was not just a proud moment for me and my family but also a testament to how the MOE scholarship has enabled me to represent myself, my institution, and my aspirations on an international platform. Having my achievements acknowledged by the Taiwan Embassy further reinforced the significance of this incredible opportunity.
The event became even more significant when it was featured in Taiwan news, transforming it from a personal achievement into a moment of international recognition. This feature underscored not just my individual success but also the broader acknowledgment of my journey, aspirations, and contributions on a global stage. It was a powerful reminder of how impactful the MOE scholarship has been in providing a platform for students like me to shine beyond borders.From my perspective, one of the most significant benefits of the MOE scholarship is its financial support. The scholarship covers 40,000 NTD annually for tuition fees and provides a monthly stipend of 15,000 NTD. This has allowed me to focus entirely on my academic and extracurricular pursuits without the constant worry of financial constraints. It has also empowered me to explore the diverse cultural and educational landscape of Taiwan.
How to apply for MOE scholarship ?
To apply for the MOE Scholarship (Ministry of Education Scholarship) for studying in Taiwan, you need to follow specific procedures. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to apply for this scholarship:
1. Eligibility Check
The Ministry of Education (MOE) Taiwan offers scholarships for foreign students who wish to pursue higher education in Taiwan. The eligibility criteria may vary slightly depending on the scholarship category, but the general requirements include:
- Be a non-Taiwanese citizen.
- Meet the academic requirements of the program you intend to pursue.
- Be accepted into a university or educational institution in Taiwan (the scholarship is often awarded to students who have already been admitted).
2. Scholarship Categories
The MOE offers several types of scholarships:
- Taiwan Scholarship for Undergraduate/Graduate Studies
- MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (for Chinese language learning)
3. Find a Taiwanese Institution
Before applying for the MOE Scholarship, you need to be accepted into a Taiwanese university or educational institution. You can apply to any of Taiwan’s universities directly. Check each institution’s website for details on how to apply, deadlines, and the programs they offer.
4. Prepare Documents
The necessary documents for the scholarship application generally include:

- Proof of proficiency in English or Chinese . Depends on the program . In I-SHOU language proficiency is not required for fully English program.
5. Submit Application to
If the scholarship is through the embassy or representative office in your country, you will need to submit your application to them. They will forward it to the Ministry of Education in Taiwan.
For example, if you’re applying from India, you need to submit your application to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in India.
6. Submit the Scholarship Application
- Online Application: Some universities or representative offices offer online application systems. You should submit all the required documents through the official portal.
- Hardcopy Application: In some cases, you might need to submit hard copies of the required documents to the representative office or university.
I submitted online application to I-SHOU University and hardcopy to Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC)
7. Check Deadlines
Ensure you are aware of the deadlines for both the university admission and scholarship application. They have separate deadlines, but you should apply for both as early as possible.
8. Wait for Results
After submitting the application, wait for the results. The scholarship award decisions are usually announced by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education. Some scholarships might require an interview as part of the selection process. IN my case I attended an interview conducted by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) . The interview was easy …don’t worry …they will check if you are aware of the scholarship and your basic idea about Taiwan .
9. Acceptance of Scholarship
If awarded the scholarship, you will receive further instructions on how to accept the scholarship, including visa application procedures and other related details.
