ISU Receives Numerous Awards Nationally and Internationally with Expertise across Diverse Fields
In its mission to cultivate future talents and promote interdisciplinary excellence, ISU empowers students to become well-rounded individuals, encouraging them to pursue their interests and fostering diverse development. With nine colleges spanning disciplines such as medicine, science, engineering, technology, business, humanities, and social sciences, ISU stands as one of Taiwan’s premier comprehensive private institutions, uniquely featuring a medical college. Committed to nurturing interdisciplinary talents, ISU has garnered significant achievements in both domestic and international competitions. Much like the genie in Aladdin’s lamp, ISU ignites the flame of hope in students’ hearts, enabling them to realize their dreams through their passions.
This year, the team comprising faculty members and students from the Department of Culinary Arts and Gastronomy under the College of Tourism and Hospitality achieved a significant feat by securing the bronze medal in the chocolate craft category at the prestigious IKA Culinary Olympics in Germany, thereby illuminating Taiwan’s culinary prowess on the global stage. Under the leadership of Dr. Chien-Sheng Lee, the team crafted the masterpiece titled “The Grace of the Earth – Cocoa,” drawing inspiration from Pingtung’s rich cocoa agricultural culture. Their exceptional craftsmanship and innovative concepts captivated audiences at the international event. Another inspiring story comes from Hung-Wei Hsu, a first-year doctoral student in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the College of Intelligent Science and Technology. Before starting his university journey, Hsu encountered considerable obstacles stemming from family circumstances and battled with depression. However, his trajectory shifted dramatically upon entering ISU. Despite facing initial challenges, he was awarded a scholarship of NT$150,000 from the CTCI Foundation and garnered multiple medals at the Green Ideas Invention and Design Fair.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hsu devised an intelligent face mask detector, which can instantly identify whether individuals are wearing masks. His invention earned acclaim, securing a silver medal at the Green Ideas Invention and Design Fair. Furthermore, the mask detector was installed on the campus, demonstrating the practical application of students’ achievements. Moreover, departments including the Department of Physical Therapy, Department of Occupational Therapy, and Department of Nutrition under the College of Medicine, as well as the Department of Materials Science and Engineering under the College of Engineering, and the Department of Creative Integrated Design under the College of Communication and Design, showcased remarkable achievements at the 2023 Taiwan Innotech Expo. Together, they secured one gold and three bronze medals in the invention competition, showcasing their outstanding performance.
Graduates nurtured by ISU have demonstrated remarkable competence, shining brightly in their respective careers. For instance, Chen-Chih Chan, a member of the photography team behind the award-winning program “Copycat Killer” in the drama category at the 58th Golden Bell Awards, graduated from the Department of Mass Communication at the College of Communication and Design. In the field of journalism, notable alumni include Chien-Chou Hou, the producer of “The Battle of Inches – Decoding Silicon Shield Island,” which won the Best Financial News Award from the Excellent Journalism Award, and Tzu-Yun Chen also won the Golden Bell Award for Best Educational and Cultural Program. These achievements underscore the caliber of graduates from ISU. Providing a suitable stage for the younger generation to showcase their talents is not only the most touching aspect of education but also a principle that ISU has consistently upheld.
