Fun Ways to Learn Chinese Traditions in Taiwan!
I walked through the doors of our IC building this morning and was instantly enveloped in the warm scent of ink and jasmine tea, accompanied by red lanterns and golden characters. Lunar New Year celebrations had transformed the entire floor.
Wear Local Clothing
Students and staff wore beautiful traditional outfits, such as qipaos, hanfu, and embroidered vests, transforming the hallways into a living fashion show. One of my Vietnamese classmates twirled in her cheongsam and grinned, โI feel like Iโm in a drama!
Try Traditional Activities
At the calligraphy tables, brushes danced across red paper. Students and staff alike tried their hand at writing with all the focus and precision they could conjure up. The chopstick challenge had everyone laughing; tiny bowls of beans, racing to pick them up without dropping any. Staff joined in, turning it into friendly chaos. I improved after a few tries and realized itโs perfect practice for hotpot season!
Play Fun Language Games
Scattered around were interactive games; pinyin flashcards, vocabulary relays, and matching challenges where shouting the right word earned red-envelope treats. I teamed up with classmates from Japan, Indonesia, and France, practicing phrases like โๆญๅ็ผ่ฒกโ and laughing the whole time.
Today reminded me why I love studying here. This isnโt just a college, itโs a place where international students get to live the culture, practicing calligraphy, fumbling chopsticks, wearing hanfu, and turning Mandarin practice into pure fun.
