Behind The 4.0 GPA: Vivian’s 6-Year Story At ISU
Introduction
It’s not every day you meet someone whose life reads like the script of an inspiring movie. With a perfect 4.0 GPA and a vibrant social life, she climbs the academic charts like Netflix’s top-trending series. Let ISU Global introduce you to your soon-to-be favorite character: Vivian Vu, a 24-year-old Ph.D. candidate from Vietnam at I-Shou University.
The Diaries Of A Ph.D. Hustler
Vivian used to be an ambitious teenager born and raised in Vietnam. Six years ago, she stepped off a plane in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, holding onto a dream bigger than her suitcase. Moving to I-Shou University was a leap of faith, but one that has paid off in countless ways.
During her time at I-Shou University, Vivian completed her Bachelor of International Business Administration with a 4.0 GPA. She received two Dean’s List awards, Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and became an honorary member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Vivian was awarded the Kaohsiung International Student Scholarship for her active participation in community service and cultural exchange, serving as the Student Representative of Vietnam at I-Shou.
After completing her Master’s in one year and finishing a “side-quest” of speaking at TEDxIShouUniversity 2022, she continued her main mission with a Ph.D. in Management.
Throwback Of Episodes
Every character’s journey has its trials; Vivian’s was no exception. As an international student, the language barrier was a challenge to her. It wasn’t easy, but once she overcame it, the results spoke volumes. Yet, the greatest challenge, even now, remains time management. Even for a master of multitasking like Vivian, you might be surprised to find how relatable she can be. “I still end up procrastinating and rushing to meet deadlines,” she admits with a smile. “But honestly, it’s so much easier if you just have a to-do list.”
Looking back on her 6-year journey at I-Shou University, Vivian marvels at how far she’s come. Her decision to stay at I-Shou for her entire academic journey wasn’t by chance. “I found an amazing supervisor—Dr. Behzad Foroughi—who is incredibly supportive, dedicated, and willing to guide me every step of the way,” Vivian explains. His mentorship has been a cornerstone of her success.
Survival Kits For Success
As this chapter of Vivan’s story draws to a close, she shares her “survival kit” for university life, packed with three essential mindsets:
- First, a chill mindset, a gentle whisper that it’s okay not to have it all figured out. This is your permission to pause, to stumble, and to trust that the beauty of life lies in its imperfections.
- Second, a growth mindset, the quiet flame that keeps you learning, striving, and transforming. With each step forward, it shapes you into someone stronger, wiser, and ever-evolving.
- And lastly, a positive mindset, the spark that lets you laugh at the chaos or the midnight marathons over textbooks. These are the moments that, years from now, will echo most vividly in your heart.
With these mindsets, you don’t just endure university life—you embrace it anand let it shape the person you’re becoming. Because, as Vivan reminds us, the journey is fleeting, but the memories you create along the way will remain, etched into the story of who you are.
Looking Ahead
Vivian’s future is unfolding like a story still in the making. She’s set her sights on finishing her Ph.D. on time, but more than that, she wants to make the most of her mid-20s surrounded by the beloved people here. As for her future career? Well, that’s a little adventure she’s keeping under wraps for now, leaving room for surprises.
Through New Eyes, The Same Heart
Despite all the maturity she’s gained, Vivian admits that deep down, she’s still a child at heart. “I remind myself often how lucky I am. I’m grateful for the path I’ve chosen, which allows me to enjoy my youth in this beautiful place, surrounded by even more beautiful people.”
Vivian’s story is more than a tale of achievements but of finding beauty in every day—a quiet morning on campus, an encounter with a cat, or a shared laugh with friends.
In the end, it’s not just the big achievements that define her but the small, fleeting moments that linger. These little heartfelt moments, they’re the ones that stay with her forever.
